There are so many ways to make a salad, but for the purposes of this post, I will be referring only to those based on leafy greens. Things like potato salad and egg salad are not going to be talked about here.
For the most part, I will be addressing the way my wife and I like our salads, and we have very different tastes. And since most salads are keto, I will be leaving this in the keto zone, despite my love of croutons.
I like simple salad (shown first): romaine lettuce, parmesan cheese, croutons, and a heavy dose of dressing (Caesar or Newman’s Own honey mustard). Sometimes I will add chicken or steak (cold), maybe even some sunflower seeds. Unlike some people, I like a lot of sauce on most things, my salad being no different.
My wife (shown second) on the other hand prefers spinach, cheese, and warmed meats (chicken or taco seasoned beef), as well as an accompaniment of veggies like tomatoes and peppers. She tops it with a simple vinaigrette, made and measured to fit her diet.
I’ve had many other salads that I enjoyed, but many I’ve forgotten. Salads with strawberries and candied walnuts, blueberries and almonds. There’s also things like endive salads, which also have a lot of variance. When I have had them is few and far between, mostly at weddings and conferences.
Wet lettuce clumps! So while you should rinse off your leafy greens, make sure they are as dry as you can get them before you make a salad, otherwise they will clump and make it hard to mix as well as eat.
